U.S. Constitution was drafted in 1787, its authors did not imagine it as final, unchangeable scripture. They saw it as scaffolding&#8212;a framework, a living compact that would need adjustment as the nation grew. Article V, the amendment process, was no afterthought. It was the mechanism that made the Constitution adaptable instead of brittle.</p><p>But to really understand why the Framers insisted on an amendment process, we need to step back into their world and recall what came before. </p><p><em>Because the Constitution wasn&#8217;t America&#8217;s first attempt at self-government.</em></p><h4>The Articles of Confederation: A Lesson in Rigidity</h4><p>From 1781 to 1789, the young nation operated under the Articles of Confederation. The Articles reflected the Revolution&#8217;s deep suspicion of centralized authority, creating a &#8220;firm league of friendship&#8221; among sovereign states. But that league had cracks from the start:</p><ul><li><p><strong>No executive or judiciary.</strong> No president to enforce laws, no national courts to resolve disputes.</p></li><li><p><strong>Weak Congress.</strong> It could not levy taxes, depending on voluntary contributions from states.</p></li><li><p><strong>Unanimity required.</strong> Any amendment demanded all thirteen states&#8217; approval&#8212;making reform essentially impossible.</p></li><li><p><strong>Disunited commerce.</strong> States taxed each other, undermining economic stability.</p></li><li><p><strong>Inadequate defense.</strong> The Confederation couldn&#8217;t fund a standing army or pay war debts. When Shays&#8217; Rebellion erupted, it had no tools to respond.</p></li></ul><p>George Washington, watching from Mount Vernon, captured the frustration:</p><blockquote><p><em>&#8220;We are either a united people, or we are not. If we are, let us in all matters of general concern act as a nation&#8230; If we are not, let us no longer act a farce by pretending to it.&#8221;</em></p></blockquote><h4>The Constitutional Convention: A Bold Reset</h4><p>By 1786, even cautious leaders admitted the system was broken. The Annapolis Convention pointed to the crisis, and Shays&#8217; Rebellion made the danger undeniable. </p><p>When delegates met in Philadelphia in 1787, they were tasked with revising the Articles. Instead, they threw them out. Madison, Hamilton, and others argued for something new: a government strong enough to tax, defend, and regulate commerce&#8212;but constrained by checks and balances.</p><p>The result was the Constitution we recognize today, complete with:</p><ul><li><p>A stronger executive (the presidency).</p></li><li><p>A national judiciary.</p></li><li><p>A bicameral Congress with clear powers to tax, regulate trade, and raise armies.</p></li><li><p>Crucially, an amendment process that required consensus but not unanimity.</p></li></ul><p>The lesson was clear: rigidity strangles republics. The Framers had lived through the failure of a system too hard to fix. They designed a new one with built-in adaptability.</p><h4>The Framers on Amendments</h4><p>Madison, Jefferson, Hamilton, Franklin&#8212;each made the case for amendment in his own style:</p><ul><li><p><strong>Madison (1789):</strong> </p><blockquote><p>&#8220;Let the Constitution have a fair trial; let it be examined by experience, discover by that test what its errors are, and then talk of amending.&#8221;</p></blockquote></li><li><p><strong>Jefferson:</strong> </p><blockquote><p>&#8220;No society can make a perpetual constitution&#8230; Every constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19 years.&#8221;</p></blockquote></li><li><p><strong>Hamilton (Federalist No. 85):</strong> </p><blockquote><p>Article V empowered both states and Congress to &#8220;originate the amendment of errors, as they may be pointed out by the experience.&#8221;</p></blockquote></li><li><p><strong>Franklin:</strong> </p><blockquote><p>&#8220;I consent to this Constitution because I expect no better, and because I am not sure that it is not the best.&#8221;</p></blockquote></li></ul><p>They weren&#8217;t just open to change; they expected it. <em>Amendment was a feature, not a flaw.</em></p><h4>Ratification and the Bill of Rights</h4><p>Even with these assurances, ratification was no slam dunk. Federalists argued the Constitution had enough safeguards. Anti-Federalists worried about tyranny without a bill of rights. The compromise? Federalists promised to add one immediately upon ratification.</p><p>That promise tipped the balance in key states. And Madison delivered: in 1789 he introduced amendments based on state constitutions and George Mason&#8217;s Virginia Declaration of Rights. Ratified in 1791, they became the Bill of Rights&#8212;guaranteeing freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and due process.</p><p>Without that promise, the Constitution might not have been ratified at all. The Bill of Rights wasn&#8217;t a decoration; it was the price of admission, and the first proof that Article V worked.</p><p>George Washington, in his 1796 Farewell Address, gave advice still relevant today: </p><blockquote><p><em>&#8220;If, in the opinion of the people, the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment&#8230; But let there be no change by usurpation.&#8221;</em> </p></blockquote><p>In other words: use the tools of amendment. Don&#8217;t twist the Constitution for partisan ends.</p><p>For much of U.S. history, the amendment process was used steadily. Amendments abolished slavery, restructured presidential succession, established an income tax, granted women the right to vote, expanded civil rights, and lowered the voting age to 18. </p><p>Between 1789 and 1992, the Constitution was amended 27 times&#8212;roughly once every eight years. Change was normal. Necessary. Patriotic.</p><p>The idea that the Constitution should be frozen in amber is a recent invention. Since the 1970s, we&#8217;ve treated amendment as impossible, even dangerous. </p><p>That mindset is profoundly ahistorical.</p><h4>The False Presumption of Permanence</h4><p>Our present paralysis is not the Framers&#8217; design. They gave us tools to adapt, but we&#8217;ve chosen not to use them. Schoolchildren are taught reverence without responsibility. Politicians tell us change equals chaos. </p><p>Meanwhile, new realities&#8212;digital privacy, reproductive freedom, climate change, corporate power, ubiquitous assault weapons, democratic representation&#8212;go unaddressed.</p><p>The Constitution isn&#8217;t failing because it&#8217;s weak. It&#8217;s failing because we refuse to use it as intended.</p><h4>The Amendments We Need Now</h4><p>To revive democracy, we must reclaim the amendment of the U.S. Constitution as a living practice. A starter slate of ten new amendments might include:</p><ul><li><p><strong>Equal Rights Amendment</strong> &#8212; gender equality guaranteed, finally.</p></li><li><p><strong>Right to Vote</strong> &#8212; enshrined, uniform, and protected.</p></li><li><p><strong>Birthright Citizenship</strong> &#8212; reaffirming that to be born here is to belong here.</p></li><li><p><strong>Right to Privacy</strong> &#8212; from bodily autonomy to digital data.</p></li><li><p><strong>Supreme Court Reform</strong> &#8212; expansion and term limits to restore balance.</p></li><li><p><strong>Congressional Term Limits</strong> &#8212; breaking the cycle of career politicians.</p></li><li><p><strong>Ban on Government Stock Trading</strong> &#8212; no government official should benefit from power by actively trading stocks or cryptocurrency.</p></li><li><p><strong>Ban on Assault Weapons</strong> &#8212; weapons of war do not belong in the hands of civilians.</p></li><li><p><strong>Expansion of the House</strong> &#8212; scaling representation to population.</p></li><li><p><strong>National Referendum Process</strong> &#8212; letting citizens directly shape policy.</p></li></ul><p>None of these ideas are radical. They&#8217;re pragmatic corrections&#8212;exactly what the Framers intended future generations to attempt. In future articles we will dig into these and explore other ideas for amending the Constitution and perfecting our union.</p><h4>Reviving the Founders&#8217; Spirit</h4><p>Franklin&#8217;s humility, Jefferson&#8217;s radicalism, Madison&#8217;s pragmatism, Washington&#8217;s caution, Hamilton&#8217;s boldness&#8212;all pointed to one truth: the Constitution was never meant to be sacred scripture. </p><p>It was meant to breathe. It was meant to grow.</p><p>If we want the American experiment to endure, we can&#8217;t just preserve it like a museum piece. </p><p>We have to amend it. That&#8217;s not betrayal&#8212;it&#8217;s fidelity. </p><p>The Framers trusted us with the tools. </p><p>The question is whether we&#8217;ll have the courage to use them.</p><div><hr></div><p>Understanding our history is a way to better understand our current times. These hateful bigots, cruel abusers, and oppressive tyrants have co-opted and corrupted <em>our</em> Public Servants&#8212;replacing them with puppets of oppression.</p><p>We have once again returned to that sad state we found ourselves in when first birthing this great Nation&#8212;rising from the fires of rebellion&#8212;responding to an unfair and failing system of <em>taxation without representation</em>.</p><p><em><strong>Freedom has never been free</strong></em>.</p><p>It is through the blood of patriots, and the courage of regular people, which will allow us to RISE from our generations fire&#8212;restoring integrity, service, and ethics to the American ethos. So what is it that can you do? is on the march in America. Trump and his allies have made it abundantly clear that their goal is not governance&#8212;it&#8217;s domination. They seek obedience, not democracy. They crave loyalty, not liberty. And they will use fear, division, and lies to get it.</p><p>So what are we to do? Fight fire with fire? Meet violence with violence? Some will argue yes. But history&#8212;and hard data&#8212;tell us otherwise. The only proven way forward is <strong>peaceful resistance</strong>. Not passive, not meek, not &#8220;going along to get along.&#8221; But deliberate, courageous, mass nonviolent action that puts our sovereignty as citizens above the power of any one man or party.</p><p>This is how we protect democracy. This is how we <em>rise</em>.</p><div><hr></div><h2>The Power of Human Sovereignty</h2><p>At the heart of our struggle is the concept of <strong>Human Sovereignty</strong>&#8212;the unshakable truth that the people, not politicians or parties, are the ultimate source of power. No president, no Supreme Court, no party boss grants us freedom. We already own it.</p><p>To reclaim that sovereignty, we need to embrace <strong>RISE</strong>: Restoring Integrity, Service, and Ethics in public life. That isn&#8217;t a slogan. It&#8217;s a commitment. It means refusing to be cowed by lies. It means building solidarity across divides. And it means standing firm in the knowledge that peaceful resistance has more force than any authoritarian strongman.</p><div><hr></div><h2>The 3.5% Rule</h2><p>Political scientist Erica Chenoweth and her colleagues studied every major protest movement from 1900 to 2006. Their conclusion is stunning in its simplicity:<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3.5%25_rule"> </a><strong><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3.5%25_rule">if just 3.5% of the population participates actively in a nonviolent movement, that movement never fails</a>.</strong></p><p>Read that again: <em>Never fails.</em></p><p>For the United States today, 3.5% equals about <strong>12 million people</strong>. That&#8217;s not everyone. That&#8217;s not even a majority. That&#8217;s enough.</p><p><a href="https://www.harvardmagazine.com/2025/07/erica-chenoweth-democracy-data-harvard">Nonviolent movements succeed</a> because they undermine the moral, political, and social legitimacy of authoritarian regimes. They bring in allies from all walks of life. They weaken the resolve of the oppressors&#8217; foot soldiers, who see friends, neighbors, and even family members on the other side. Violence, by contrast, plays into the strongman&#8217;s hands. It justifies crackdowns, frightens the undecided, and fractures the coalition needed for change.</p><div><hr></div><h2>History Proves It</h2><p>We don&#8217;t have to take this on faith. The record is clear.</p><p><strong>Gandhi&#8217;s India.</strong> When the British Empire ruled over hundreds of millions, conventional wisdom said it would never end. Yet through the concept of <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/satyagraha-philosophy">satyagraha</a>, disciplined, nonviolent resistance&#8212;boycotts, marches, hunger strikes&#8212;millions of ordinary Indians withdrew their cooperation. The empire couldn&#8217;t govern without the consent of the governed, and in 1947, independence was won. <a href="https://www.nationalgeographic.com/culture/article/mahatma-gandhi-changed-political-protest">It changed political protest forever</a>.</p><p><strong><a href="https://naacp.org/find-resources/history-explained/civil-rights-leaders/martin-luther-king-jr">Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.</a> and the Civil Rights Movement.</strong> Jim Crow wasn&#8217;t dismantled by bullets. It was dismantled by bus boycotts, sit-ins, marches, and mass peaceful defiance. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_campaign">Television images of Black Americans facing down dogs and fire hoses </a>with nothing but dignity and determination shocked the conscience of the nation and the world. Laws changed because the legitimacy of segregation collapsed. Famously, in the sermon <em><a href="https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/king-papers/documents/loving-your-enemies-sermon-delivered-dexter-avenue-baptist-church">Loving Your Enemies</a></em>, Dr. King reveals the core to why the 3.5% rule works:</p><blockquote><p><em>Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.</em></p></blockquote><p>In both cases, authoritarian power structures faced not armed revolution but peaceful mass resistance. And they crumbled. <a href="https://time.com/5101740/martin-luther-king-peaceful-protests-lessons/">Their lessons resonate still</a>.</p><div><hr></div><h2>Why Violence Fails</h2><p>Violence tempts us because it feels powerful. It offers the illusion of control. But in reality, it hands authoritarian leaders exactly what they want.</p><ul><li><p><strong>Distorting truth.</strong> Violence sows chaos, removing truth as a foundation.</p></li><li><p><strong>Excuse for repression.</strong> Violence lets strongmen claim they are &#8220;restoring order.&#8221;</p></li><li><p><strong>Loss of moral authority.</strong> Violence alienates moderates, religious leaders, and the undecided middle.</p></li><li><p><strong>Escalation spiral.</strong> Once begun, violence almost always escalates&#8212;and authoritarian regimes usually have more weapons, more troops, and fewer scruples.</p></li></ul><p>Trumpism thrives on fear. Violence feeds fear. Peaceful resistance starves it.</p><div><hr></div><h2>Peaceful Resistance in Practice</h2><p>So what does this mean for us today?</p><p>It means refusing to normalize authoritarianism.<br>It means showing up&#8212;in the streets, at the polls, in our workplaces, in our communities, in our neighborhoods, in our families.<br>It means forming networks of solidarity that can&#8217;t be broken by intimidation.</p><p>Peaceful resistance is:</p><ul><li><p><strong>Marches and rallies</strong> that display the sheer numbers of people committed to democracy.</p></li><li><p><strong>Economic boycotts</strong> of businesses that fund authoritarian politics.</p></li><li><p><strong>Workplace actions</strong> that withhold labor until dignity and rights are respected.</p></li><li><p><strong>Cultural refusal</strong> to parrot propaganda or stay silent in the face of lies.</p></li><li><p><strong>Civic courage</strong>&#8212;everyday people standing up in school boards, city councils, and neighborhood meetings to defend integrity, service, and ethics.</p></li></ul><p>Every action chips away at authoritarian power. Every refusal to cooperate strengthens democracy.</p><div><hr></div><h2>Our Moment to Rise</h2><p>We are at an inflection point. The authoritarian push is real. But it is not unstoppable. The 3.5% rule tells us that if enough of us act&#8212;just one in thirty&#8212;sustained peaceful resistance will prevail.</p><p>But it requires discipline. It requires courage. And it requires faith in the truth that <strong>we the people are sovereign.</strong></p><p>Trump and his allies want chaos. They want fear. They want us to believe that violence is inevitable. Our job is to prove them wrong. To show that the American people can rise, peacefully but firmly, in defense of democracy.</p><p>As Gandhi said: <em>&#8220;First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.&#8221;</em><br>As Dr. King said: <em>&#8220;The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.&#8221;</em></p><p>They weren&#8217;t speaking in abstractions. They were pointing to a proven path. Now it&#8217;s our turn to walk it.</p><div><hr></div><h2>The Call</h2><p>This is not the moment for despair. It&#8217;s the moment for resolve. It&#8217;s the moment to remember that our strength lies not in guns or rage, but in solidarity, numbers, and truth.</p><p>If we want to defeat Trump and the authoritarian tide, we don&#8217;t need everyone. We just need 3.5%. </p><p>12 million people&#8212;standing together in peaceful resistance.</p><p>That&#8217;s enough to bend the arc of history. That&#8217;s enough to defend human sovereignty. Something you vote for every four years, like buying a new phone. If it breaks, oh well&#8212;wait for the next release cycle. But democracy isn&#8217;t a product. It&#8217;s a <strong>practice</strong>. And it's failing because we&#8217;ve stopped practicing.</p><p>The idea behind <strong>Human Sovereignty</strong> isn&#8217;t complicated. It&#8217;s this:</p><blockquote><p>Every human being has a right to agency, dignity, safety, and choice. Those rights are non-negotiable. They are not granted by governments, corporations, churches, or platforms. They are inherent. And when those institutions forget their place, it is our sovereign duty to remind them.</p></blockquote><p>That&#8217;s it. That&#8217;s the whole damn idea. But it has profound consequences. Because if you believe in Human Sovereignty, then you have to believe in action. You have to believe in saying <em>no</em>. You have to believe in resistance, even when the people you&#8217;re resisting tell you they&#8217;re on your side.</p><p>This isn&#8217;t a party. This isn&#8217;t a brand. It&#8217;s a line in the sand.</p><p>And I&#8217;m drawing it now.</p><div><hr></div><h2>Why Now?</h2><p>Because we&#8217;re running out of time.</p><p>Authoritarianism isn&#8217;t creeping anymore&#8212;it&#8217;s sprinting. The courts are rigged. Women are being stripped of reproductive rights. Trans people are being legislated out of public life. Workers are ground into dust while CEOs buy their fifth yachts. Billionaire-funded think tanks are dismantling civil rights faster than you can say &#8220;originalist.&#8221; Meanwhile, our planet is literally on fire.</p><p>And still&#8212;<em>still</em>&#8212;people tell us to wait. To compromise. To play nice. To hold our noses and vote. To be grateful for whatever crumbs of justice fall from the high table of power.</p><p>Fuck that.</p><p><strong>Human Sovereignty is about flipping the table.</strong></p><p>It&#8217;s about remembering that power is supposed to flow from the people&#8212;not at them. It&#8217;s about standing up and saying: <em>You don&#8217;t own me. You don&#8217;t speak for me. You don&#8217;t get to decide who matters and who doesn&#8217;t.</em></p><div><hr></div><h2>What It Is (and What It Isn&#8217;t)</h2><p>This isn&#8217;t a political party (though it could be, eventually). </p><p>It&#8217;s a <strong>framework</strong> for resistance.<br>It&#8217;s a <strong>language</strong> for reclaiming agency.<br>It&#8217;s a <strong>movement</strong> for those of us who are tired of asking nicely.</p><p>And it&#8217;s built on six clear, non-negotiable pillars. Each one a refusal. Each one a vision.</p><p>Over the next several articles, I&#8217;ll dive deep into each one. But for now, here&#8217;s the overview.</p><div><hr></div><h2>The Six Pillars of Human Sovereignty</h2><h3>1. <strong>Bodily Autonomy</strong></h3><p>Your body. Your choice. Full stop.</p><p>This isn&#8217;t just about abortion, though yes&#8212;<em>especially</em> about abortion. This is about reproductive freedom, gender-affirming care, the right to refuse medical treatment, and the right to access it. It&#8217;s about the freedom to not be surveilled, sterilized, regulated, or erased.</p><p>If the state controls your body, <em>you are not free</em>. </p><p>I&#8217;ll go even further&#8212;if the state controls your <strong>information body</strong>, your online life and digital footprint, <em>you are also not free</em>.</p><div><hr></div><h3>2. <strong>Information Integrity</strong></h3><p>Democracy dies in distortion.</p><p>We are drowning in lies&#8212;manufactured, algorithmically boosted, and bought by the highest bidder. HS demands radical transparency: in media, in algorithms, in political funding, in AI. Because consent means nothing if it&#8217;s manipulated.</p><p>Without truth, there is no trust. Without trust, there is no democracy.</p><div><hr></div><h3>3. <strong>Economic Democracy</strong></h3><p>Capitalism without guardrails is just feudalism with branding.</p><p>We cannot be sovereign in a system where 0.1% of people control 90% of resources. Where work doesn&#8217;t pay, housing isn&#8217;t affordable, and healthcare bankrupts you. HS demands fair wages, corporate accountability, cooperative ownership, and a system where <em>we</em> decide how the economy works&#8212;not the billionaires.</p><p>We want freedom. Not just the freedom to starve more slowly.</p><div><hr></div><h3>4. <strong>Constitutional Renewal</strong></h3><p>The system is not broken. It&#8217;s working exactly as designed&#8212;to serve the few at the expense of the many.</p><p>HS is about reasserting balance: checks on executive power, term limits for judges, the end of dark money, and meaningful pathways for structural reform. This is about modernizing the machinery of democracy before it runs us over completely.</p><p>We don&#8217;t want to burn it down. We want to rebuild it&#8212;with justice as the blueprint.</p><div><hr></div><h3>5. <strong>Environmental Stewardship</strong></h3><p>This planet is not a commodity. It&#8217;s our only home.</p><p>Human Sovereignty recognizes the rights of nature, the urgency of climate justice, and the absolute obligation to stop trading survival for quarterly profits. Not from kings, CEOs, or AIs.</p><p>Every policy, every institution, every rule must be grounded in the <em>explicit, ongoing consent of the people it affects.</em> HS is about participatory government. Real transparency. Community-based decision-making. If it&#8217;s not by us and for us, it&#8217;s against us.</p><p>We are not passengers. States of America:</p><p>Our Union finds itself at an impasse where we have lost touch with the principles and values which birthed our Nation &#8212; ideals which lit the fires of Freedom, Liberty, and Justice for All. We find ourselves with a Government that is no longer of the People, by the People, or for the People &#8212; instead, once again we find ourselves under a tyrannical ruler. Yet we are not a people of cowards, we are a people of Bravery and Courage. The foundations of <em>Banner &amp; Backbone</em> are built upon those ideals and are aimed at <em><strong>R</strong>estoring <strong>I</strong>ntegrity, <strong>S</strong>ervice, and <strong>E</strong>thics</em> (<em>RISE</em>)<em> </em>into the ethos for everyday Americans. Using our Founding documents &#8212; the <em>Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Federalist Papers</em>, and others &#8212; we re-establish the origins of this great Nation, where <em>integrity </em>is a cornerstone in maintaining our Union. Now is the time to raise new <em>banners </em>for us to rally behind. Beginning the necessary work of forging a new <em>backbone</em> as civically minded, morally courageous, and politically brave citizens &#8212; reigniting the American spirit for a modern, global society.</p><h4>Declaring our Integrity</h4><p>To begin, we proudly and loudly declare that <em>Integrity is the American Way</em><strong> </strong>&#8212; and one of the most important characteristics for a public servant to maintain. It is a foundational principle baked into our National heritage. Our Founders wrote and spoke often about the characteristics that define <em>integrity</em>. Using the <em><a href="https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/declaration-transcript">Declaration of Independence</a></em> as a starting point we begin our discussion, </p><blockquote><p><em>We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.</em></p></blockquote><p>Although the language is outdated and does not fully include a more complete view of humanity &#8212; the meaning remains intact. I would posit the following as a more holistic view and one that includes ideals of the living generations.</p><blockquote><p><em>We hold these truths to be forever and self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by the sanctity of their own Life with certain undeniable Rights and Freedoms &#8212; that among these are Bodily Sanctity, Reproductive Autonomy, Data Privacy, Environmental Stewardship, Education, Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.</em></p></blockquote><p>We must add a new depth of understanding to our core definitions surrounding basic Human Rights and the Dignity we strive to afford each other. Distilling this even further down, we look at the previous statement and break it into its two main parts.</p><p><em>First, &#8220;</em>we hold these truths to be forever and self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by the sanctity of their own Life with certain undeniable Rights and Freedoms&#8230;&#8221; Just as our Founders stated, and as we as know, the understanding of &#8220;<em>we hold these truths to be forever and self-evident&#8230;&#8221;  </em>is more than accepting a simple fact &#8212; it represents a core concept of civic integrity. It represents that there are boundaries to what we consider acceptable, as citizens, within a democratic republic &#8212; that they are fundamental to maintaining a government which adequately represents the people.</p><p>Within the second section &#8220;<em>&#8230;that among these are Bodily Sanctity, Reproductive Autonomy, Data Privacy, Environmental Stewardship, Education, Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness&#8221;</em> &#8212; these are the ideals which define the boundaries of a society based on the principles of integrity. These ideals are the stopping block and the glue which bind our society into a single Union &#8212; one where ALL PEOPLE share a common understanding of basic human Rights and Dignity. A Dignity which extends not just to one&#8217;s physical and spiritual, but also to one&#8217;s digital Rights and Freedoms.</p><p>These two sections together build out that basic understanding of civic integrity &#8212; it is built on principles of trust and mutual understanding. Those principles of integrity, and that value of trust, are further expanded upon in The Federalist Papers &#8212; specifically <em>Federalist No. 10</em> by James Madison, <em>Federalist No. 71</em> by Alexander Hamilton and <em>Federalist No. 78</em> by Alexander Hamilton &#8212; where two of our Founders further expand upon the need for these ideals of trust and mutual understanding to be a key feature of our Democratic Republic. Within <em>Federalist No. 10</em>, James Madison speaks specifically to the People of New York, staunchly defending the Union of our States and the need for a Republic &#8212; built on systems founded in integrity. In Madison&#8217;s own words, he writes:</p><div class="pullquote"><p>No man is allowed to be a judge in his own cause, because his interest would certainly bias his judgement, and, not improbably, corrupt his integrity. With equal, nay with greater reason, a body of men are unfit to be both judges and parties at the same time; yet what are many of the most important acts of legistaltion, but so many judicial determinations, not indeed concerning the rights of single persons, but concerning the rights of large bodies of citizens? &#8230; The apportionment of taxes on the various descriptions of property is an act which seems to require the most exact impartiality; yet there is, perhaps, no legislative act in which greater opportunity and temptation are given to a predominant party to trample on the rules of justice. Every shilling with which they overburden the inferior number, is a shilling saved to their own pockets.</p></div><p>To Madison&#8217;s words I say, we must further encase integrity into the system itself&#8212;for we have seen the continued degradation of the public&#8217;s Trust in their representatives. I would dare say we have passed back into a system of taxation without representation. That the ruling party&#8212;the Robber Barons, Theocrats, and Technofascists&#8212;have given in completely to the temptation to trample the rules of Justice. That the ruling party has forsaken their Oaths of Office&#8212;they have broken the sacred trust place upon them.</p><p>The ruling party have Legislated away our Freedoms and Rights&#8212;handing over our hard earned future and trading in our American Dreams&#8212;all to appease the unappeasable. The ruling party have discarded Truth for convenience, Liberty for subjugation, and Justice for irony&#8212;I dissent.</p><p>So now, we must <em>RISE</em> as Americans. We must take the first steps to begin restoring integrity into our civil services&#8212;truth cannot be subjective to what the ruling party tells you it is&#8212;basic rights and bodily sovereignty cannot be subjective, they are truths we hold to be self-evident&#8212;government is a service of the people, by the people, and for the people&#8212;and above all a commitment to truth, without fear or favor, which is necessary for a free peoples to exist.</p><p>With great love for our Nation,</p><p><em>~ Nick Paro, </em>VALERIUS</p><div><hr></div><div><hr></div><h4><em><strong>Commentary</strong></em></h4><blockquote><p><em>Nick Paro &#8212; we fully acknowledge that Founders of the United States have known issues which cannot be overlooked.
