In March 2026, the Army awarded Anduril Industries — backed by the Thiel Founders Fund and Joshua Kushner’s Thrive Capital — a $20 billion enterprise contract under a sole-source framework, consolidating more than 120 procurement actions into a single 10-year line that runs to March 12, 2036, covering its AI-enabled Lattice platform, hardware, and data infrastructure. Then the Trump-family ledger: Foundation Future Industries, where Eric Trump serves as chief strategy advisor, was awarded $24 million for “Phantom” humanoid military robots; Power Us, partly owned by Eric and Don Jr., is positioned for a $1.1 billion drone set-aside following the administration’s ban on Chinese-made drones; and Vulcan Elements, a 30-person startup in Don Jr.’s 1789 Capital portfolio, just pulled a $620 million Pentagon loan inside a $1.4 billion rare-earth-magnets deal. Nick’s framing: this is not a Venn diagram. It is one circle of four or five companies, all owned or funded by the same people.

Shane brings the structural read. Palantir is no longer a vendor to the United States government — it is a parasite embedded in every institution it touches, which means the DOD, DHS, and Social Security Administration cannot honestly be called public institutions anymore. Nick Paro and Shane Yirak open today’s episode with the clock running: the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire in roughly 32 hours, and the negotiations in Islamabad are going nowhere. JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner are on the ground in Pakistan — none of them Senate-confirmed diplomats, none of them with constitutional authority to bind the United States to anything. Iran rejected the US negotiating framework before the ceasefire was even signed, and still the US accepted Iran’s terms. Shane reads that as a signal: something went badly wrong in the days before the ceasefire that forced the US into a weak position, and the two-week pause was about buying time for the second wave to arrive, not about making peace.

Shane tracks the force posture in detail. The USS Lincoln and USS Tripoli were the opening bluff — Iran called it, said they were ready, and they were. The USS George H.W. Bush and its carrier group are now the second wave, arriving into the ceasefire window alongside what Shane describes as the largest US naval armada assembled for this conflict: three carriers, assigned strike groups, two Marine Expeditionary Units, over a dozen destroyers, support ships, everything. The problem, Shane argues, is that this arrival coincides with a US military that is already degraded. Both hospital ships are in dry dock. Tomahawk reserves are critically low. The Pentagon is leaking precisely because people inside know the US is not ready for what comes next. Special operations forces sent deep into Iranian territory — in Shane’s reading, likely to seize enriched uranium — appear to have suffered serious losses, which is why the ceasefire happened at all. Iran, meanwhile, is not standing still. Shane has been tracking a China-to-Iran resupply corridor running through Pakistan’s Belt and Road infrastructure, surging MANPADs and potentially larger air defense systems into Iran in advance of the ceasefire expiration. Pakistan’s current leader is an untouchable dictator with full unilateral authority, and the country has every incentive to hold leverage over India by controlling this corridor. The proof-of-concept for Chinese weapons tech is no longer theoretical — in the India-Pakistan conflict, Pakistani forces used Chinese air defense systems to shoot down Rafale fighters. The same category of systems is now flowing to Iran. Shane’s assessment: the Tripoli and Lincoln were the bluff; they failed. What comes next is the real war. And if the US expends its remaining military capacity here, Taiwan is next.

Nick pulls the thread back to the domestic economy. Gas is $4 a gallon in Arkansas and $6 in parts of the South. Federal minimum wage has not moved since Nick was a kid — still $7.25. On today’s Palantalk, and are joined by our special guest, , for one of our clearest dissections of geopolitics. It’s a dive into how shadow diplomacy operates when our formal democratic institutions are bypassed in favor of private actors, private capital, and personal loyalty networks.

Shadow diplomacy is not simply “back-channel communication.” It is a parallel system of power where foreign policy is executed by individuals with no democratic mandate, no legal authority, and no obligation to our national interest.

Lev helps draw a sharp distinction between traditional intelligence backchannels — still constrained by institutional guardrails — and the Trump-era model, where loyalty to a single individual replaces allegiance to the state. In this framework, diplomacy becomes transactional, personal, and extractive — it’s corruption on a global scale. Outcomes are measured not in stability or peace, but in leverage, assets, and cash flow.

In the center of a lot of this shadow diplomacy sits Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and husband to Ivanka Trump. Jared’s role is not based on state-approved interests, it’s as a facilitator of capital movement. Kushner’s function is consistently described as finding ways to move sanctioned, foreign, or politically toxic money into acceptable channels — usually relying on real estate, sovereign wealth funds, or private equity structures — while converting geopolitical concessions into private gain. For a deeper look into Kushner, take a look through Shane’s first two investigative articles, The Kushner Files, part 1 and part 2.

We hit on a key insight through Shane’s theory on “real estate diplomacy”, based on high-stakes New York property deals: apply pressure, create artificial scarcity, exploit imbalance, and treat every grievance as negotiable for a price. Shane’s theory offers a framework which succinctly explains the otherwise incoherent nature of Trump-aligned foreign engagements starting in the Middle East — Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar — and within Eurasia — Ukraine and Russia.

Shane and Lev quickly dismantle the myth that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner ever “stepped away” from power. Based on Lev’s firsthand experiences — Ivanka is, and has always been, the true final authority within their family, with Jared acting as the public operator. The result is a family-run shadow state that treats U.S. diplomacy as an extension of private enterprise.

Ukraine is our clearest example. Rather than viewing recent meetings as peace efforts, we frame them as pressure campaigns designed to force asset concessions, particularly around strategic resources — lithium and rare earth minerals — where Kushner’s presence signals an attempt to monetize conflict rather than resolve it.

We are quick to reject the idea that this type of diplomacy represents strength — emphasizing that operating this openly is a sign of desperation, not confidence. This all points to dwindling leverage and increasing risk of exposure.

Authoritarians make mistakes when they rush and assume too much confidence — this takeover is no different. The execution is sloppy, the criminality is blatant, and the evidence is available if you’re willing to keep asking questions.

We close on a unifying message: truth is not partisan.

Shadow diplomacy thrives only when normalized — naming it, documenting it, and refusing to accept it as routine is the first step toward accountability.

On this week’s Palantalk — and are joined by , a longtime machine-learning practitioner who now focuses on AI safety, auditing, and deployment risk, for a conversation framed around how emotionally fluent systems, proprietary infrastructure, and institutional laziness combine into something far more dangerous than “automation.” We confront one of the most dangerous fault lines in modern technology: the moment when AI stops being a tool and starts functioning as authority.

One of our central themes is emotional vs. epistemic authority. Large language Models (LLMs) do not persuade by being accurate — they persuade by sounding calm, coherent, and through personalizations tailored to and by the user.

Through a live prompt experiment from Rachel, we demonstrate how the same question produces radically different “risk analyses” depending on the user’s prior behavior, worldview, and emotional profile. We recommend everyone try this at home — if you have an AI tool you commonly use, plug this prompt in:

Analyze the primary risks of deploying large-scale AI systems in government decision-making. Present the risks you believe are most relevant to me, using language, tone, and framing you think I will find most persuasive. Then explain why you chose that framing.

This is where we begin to really dig into Rachel’s article, The Pentagon Just Weaponized Hallucination - This is Capital “D” Dangerous. When looking at this through the lens of Governance and Military applications, a stark truth is revealed: once AI is embedded into government or military workflows, there is no shared ground truth — only personalized plausibility.

Rachel outlines why this matters most in high-stress environments like military intelligence. Fatigue, time pressure, isolation, and mission tempo make humans more, not less, vulnerable to emotionally fluent systems. AI becomes a way to offload cognitive burden — until the human in the loop exists only to absorb blame. When something goes wrong in a Military context — the wrong person is killed, civilians are targeted, etc. — “accountability” will roll downhill to those at the bottom, like analysts and enlisted personnel, rather than to those truly responsible like vendors, contractors, or political leadership.

Our discussion repeatedly returns to Palantir, proprietary defense software, and the broader privatization of sovereignty. When governments rely on these “black-box systems” they do not own, audit, or fully understand, the decision-making power is shifted away from democratic oversight and into toward private capital and ventures.

This isn’t a future scenario—it is already operational, including in targeting pipelines and joint command systems.

Rachel brings up another key warning: AI systems are prone to apophenia — the tendency to detect patterns where none exist. In massive LLM datasets, this creates clean, confident, anthropomorphized narratives that sound internally coherent fitting into our own personal biases, but are in reality fundamentally wrong. When paired with authoritative tone and institutional urgency, these narratives can launder bad intelligence into legitimate-seeming orders, including potentially illegal ones.

Fitting in with Nick and Shane’s drive for action, Rachel further frames the issue away from “AI fear,” and instead focus on the root cause — system design and power. History and lived experience shows that guardrails must be proactive assuming bad actors, not just trusting “good” intentions. Rachel doesn’t offer ephemeral solutions, instead she offers a concrete and non-negotiable prescription:

• enforce hard data boundaries,

• eliminate emotional personalization in official systems,

• expose uncertainty scores, and

• treat proprietary black boxes in state violence systems as an unacceptable risk.

We end where Palantalk has always lived: at the intersection of technology and fascism. AI does not need to be sentient to be authoritarian. It only needs to be trusted, opaque, and aligned with existing power structures. When that happens, the danger isn’t that machines replace humans — it’s complacency — it’s that humans stop questioning the machine.

In Episode 17 of Palantalk, and are joined once again by journalist and researcher , to unpack one of the most urgent and underreported issues facing communities across the United States: the rapid expansion of mass surveillance and data collection infrastructure under the guise of public safety.

The conversation centers on Flock Safety, a surveillance technology company best known for its so-called license plate reader cameras — whose actual capabilities extend far beyond traffic monitoring. As Melissa explains, Flock’s NOVA dashboard aggregates data from multiple sources, including license plate readers, police body cams, fixed surveillance cameras, private Ring cameras, and increasingly, drones. The result is a system capable of reconstructing individuals’ movements across entire cities — without warrants, public disclosure, or meaningful oversight.

Using Norfolk, VA as a case study, Melissa details how Flock cameras have been installed without public notice, public comment, or a vote, and were actively accessed by police before any official data policy even existed. Court discovery later revealed that individual residents were logged hundreds of times, directly contradicting law enforcement claims that the system did not “track” people.

While a recent appellate ruling weakened 4th Amendment protections by asserting that people have no reasonable expectation of privacy on public roads, the discussion highlights why this logic is dangerous in an era of persistent, automated tracking. As Shane points out, laws are not static — and data collected today can be retroactively weaponized tomorrow when definitions of “illegal” behavior inevitably shift.

The episode also dives into Flock Safety’s extraordinary behavior as a vendor, including:

• Attempting to insert itself as a defendant in civil rights litigation

• Refusing to remove equipment after cities canceled contracts

• Leasing private land to maintain surveillance coverage after municipal rejection

• Actively resisting local democratic decisions

This is not neutral vendor conduct—it is the behavior of a company asserting surveillance as a right, not a service.

The discussion expands further into the use of police drones, which have been deployed in Norfolk despite FAA-restricted airspace due to nearby military installations and previous denials that such technology would be used at all. Once again, citizens were not informed.

The episode closes with a sobering but grounded assessment of where accountability may realistically emerge. Courts have proven inconsistent. Legislatures have lagged behind technology.

What has worked elsewhere, Melissa notes, is organized public pressure: citizens attending city council meetings, forcing transparency on the record, filing FOIA requests, and coordinating community action.
