My Vets don’t even have dental care provided by the VA anymore. They used to, but not anymore. When I was just a greenhorn fresh out of school, I had a patient with infective endocarditis that was due to an infected abscessed tooth. The VA paid for the PICC line and the antibiotics, but they would not remove the tooth because they “didn’t do that anymore”. It was during the summer when we had a fresh batch of Residents and Interns rotate in with a brand new MD on their name tags and I had to explain this travesty of a gap in the VA healthcare system ad nauseam. I also had to watch this Vet, who was otherwise healthy and in his early middle age, languish and die over a period of two weeks. I’m writing this and realizing that I’m the about the same age now as he was then.
I left a comment, noting that limiting female reproductive healthcare but not male reproductive healthcare is a violation of 42 usc 18116 (sex discrimination in healthcare) for which the VA would be financially liable.
i would not be here today without having been supported with the help of my father's veteran's benefits, stolen from me, with a foster mother who stole & forged my checks, but i appreciate they were earned by my father, intended for me
I haven't heard squat about fighting to get trans service members that have been kicked out thier bennies back all I see is them being told your out of here and you get nothing.
Without the courage of millions of veterans (going back to the first war) we wouldn’t have a country!
I’m a disabled vet too and the VA is my healthcare. It’s sad because I worked for 36yrs as an RN, and former flight nurse. This is scary stuff to me.
